What grade passback does
Once your school's admin has connected Questiva, you add Questiva as an external tool inside a Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle course and choose which graded QuickBooks Online activity to link to it, one gradebook column per activity. A student opens that column's assignment from inside your LMS and launches straight into the matching activity, already signed in as themselves. They do the QuickBooks Online work, export their file, and submit it exactly as they would if they had come to Questiva directly. The smart grader scores the export the same way it always does, and within seconds the score lands in that gradebook column. You never touch a spreadsheet.
What it does not do yet
Grade passback only covers smart-graded QuickBooks Online activities right now. Chapter quizzes and chapter exams are not wired to post a score to your LMS yet, that is coming. Until then, a student's quiz and exam results live only inside Questiva, on their student detail page and yours.
Getting your LMS connected
LTI 1.3 registration happens at the institution level on every LMS, and it is not something a teacher account can do alone. Canvas Developer Keys are created by a Canvas admin. Blackboard requires Questiva to be registered once with your school's Anthology account. Moodle needs a site administrator to add the tool manually. Handing your own account admin rights to a stranger's tool would be a real security hole, so the setup step always runs through your LMS admin and Questiva directly, never through a teacher's own login.
Open the Canvas, Moodle & LTI page in your teacher dashboard. The exam bank, packaged for import into your LMS, is the first thing on it. Under What your LMS admin needs you will find the four tool URLs and a ready-to-send message, and the Request LMS setup button at the top opens a short form: fill it in and Questiva reaches out to your admin directly to finish the connection. A band across the top of the page says whether your institution is connected at all, and Your linked classes lower down names each class an LMS course has mapped onto.

Once it's connected
Add Questiva as an external tool inside the course, the same way you'd add any other LTI tool, and pick the graded QuickBooks Online activities you want linked. Your LMS creates one gradebook column per activity you link.
Students do not need a separate invitation. The first time you launch as the instructor, Questiva creates a class matched to that specific LMS course and you become its teacher. From then on, every student who launches an activity from that same course is enrolled into that class automatically, no group code needed. If you hold a seat pool that covers that class's textbook, a seat is claimed for the student at that moment, the same way it would be if they had joined with your group code.
What "Synced to your LMS" means
On a student's grader attempt, in your student detail page and in your Needs you queue, you'll see a small status line once LMS grade passback is active for that class: Synced to your LMS means the score reached your gradebook. Sync failed, retrying means Questiva is still trying to deliver it and hasn't given up. Not linked means that particular attempt has no LMS course or activity tied to it, most often because the student worked through Questiva directly rather than launching from your LMS, so there is nowhere to sync it to.
Questions we get about this
- Do my students still need the book?
- Yes. Launching from your LMS does not include the textbook. A student needs a seat from your pool or their own copy, exactly as they would joining with your group code. The LMS launch enrols them in your class and claims a seat automatically if you have one free that covers the class's textbook.
- Can I use the join code AND the LMS?
- Yes, mixing the two is fine. Whether a student who already joined with your group code is recognized as the same account when they later launch from your LMS depends on your school's email domain being marked trusted when Questiva sets up the connection. Ask your LMS admin to confirm that with us if you want the two to line up on one account rather than the LMS launch creating a second, separate login for that student.
- Why is a score missing in my LMS?
- The student has to submit through the LMS launch for the score to have anywhere to go, an attempt started directly in Questiva has no LMS activity attached. If they resubmit, the new score overwrites the old one in your gradebook. And if their class holds grades for your review, the score posts to your LMS only once you release it, not the moment they submit.
