Turn off Smart grading for a class and every QuickBooks upload waits for you. The grader still scores it, but the student sees nothing until you release it. This only affects QuickBooks work, not quizzes or exams.
Turn it on
Open the class, choose Class settings, and turn Smart grading off. It saves straight away. It only affects work uploaded from now on: nothing already graded is pulled back, and turning it on again doesn't release anything you're holding.
Release a grade
Open Needs you
Held uploads show a Held grade badge. The Submissions filter shows only uploads.
Open the row and check it
You see the score and any file integrity flags. If a check is wrong, fix it first. See Fix a smart grader score.
Choose Release grade, then confirm
The student now sees their score and the check-by-check results. No email is sent.
Grades are released one at a time. Each re-upload is held on its own, so a student who uploads three times gives you three rows.
What the student sees while it is held
Turned in, with no score. They can still upload a new file. Holding doesn't stop them finishing the chapter, because uploads never count toward completion.

- Can I release the whole class at once?
- No. You release one upload at a time.
