Each chapter's practice quiz includes comprehension questions and fill-in-the-blanks that students type in. You choose how many of them come to you. Reading them is feedback, never a mark: no verdict here changes a score or completion.
Choose how many come to you
In Class settings, under Exercises and written answers, open Answers to review:

Students answer every question either way, and every answer is saved. The setting only decides what waits for you.
Review them
Open Needs you and choose Written answers
You can narrow it to one chapter or one student.
Open an answer
You see what they wrote, whether they marked themselves right, and a box for a note. Show answer key opens the book's answer beside it.
Mark it
Mark as read if it is fine, or Ask for another look to send it back. The badges read Read and Sent back.
Mark all written answers as read clears everything waiting (or just the chapter you're looking at), but leaves anything you sent back alone. It shows under All items and Written answers. In a class set to Graded: First attempt, the buttons are Correct and Incorrect instead.
What students see
Your verdict and note, gathered into one notification every few hours rather than one per answer. If they rewrite an answer you've read, it comes back to you marked Edited since you read it.
Students can check their own written answers with Show answer, unless Exercise answer support is set to Strict. The chapter quiz has its own setting: see How chapter quizzes are graded.
Student questions and messages
The same list holds what students send you. A question asked with Ask instructor in the book shows as Question, with the page it was asked from; anything else shows as Message. Choose Messages to see only those. Open one to read the thread and reply. Mark as handled clears it from the list.
