Completion only moves when a student finishes a whole chapter: they read it through, tick every hands-on step, and pass its practice quiz with 80% or better. Reading alone, or a graded QuickBooks upload, does not move it.
What to check, in order
Have they joined?
On By student, a student marked Invited or Awaiting approval has not joined yet, so they have no progress.
Is it just early?
A class halfway through its first chapter has finished nothing yet. The Reading tile and column move every page, so check those instead.
Are they nearly done?
Open a student's record. A chapter marked In Progress is started but not finished, usually a practice quiz not yet passed or a few steps left unticked.
Can they open the book?
A student without a plan or a seat can only read the free chapter. Seats, in the sidebar, shows who has one. See How seats work.
Is Progress tracking on?
In Class settings, Progress tracking must be on. While it's off, the reader records nothing for this class.
If Chapter quizzes is set to Unavailable in Class settings, a chapter only needs its reading and hands-on steps.
Questions we get about this
- My student used Mark chapter complete. Why did completion not move?
- It ticks every hands-on step at once and counts the chapter as read, but the practice quiz still has to be passed. Their record shows a Skipped badge for steps ticked this way.
- A student passed the practice quiz. Why is the chapter still not complete?
- The quiz is one of three requirements. Check they've also read to the end and ticked every hands-on step.
